Ink and toner cartridges can be the cause of many frustrating error messages. The following are the most common errors that we see along with solutions.
- “Non-Genuine” Cartridge
Don’t you just love it when your printer calls you out for saving a few dollars? Most 3rd party cartridges include a chip in the cartridge to override this error, but sometimes the error gets by. It is fine to click “okay” and move on. If the error continues, remove the cartridge and wipe the contact chip off with a clean, soft cloth. - “Cartridge Problem”
This error has a habit of popping up after you install a new cartridge. First, double check that you removed any seals on the cartridge. Second, check the vent typically located on the top rear of the cartridge for an orange tab or debris. Pull or clear with a pin if necessary.
If the above have not solved your problem, pop in an old cartridge. Once the printer has recognized the old cartridge, replace with the new again.
Lastly, try running a cleaning cycle on the printer to clear potential clogs. This option is usually found in your printer control panel. - “Replace Cartridge/Low Ink” Messages
These can be very frustrating. You may know your ink or toner is low, but you are using what is left. Solutions steps will vary great by make/model, so please refer to your manual for instructions. However, typically the following options typically exist:
-Disable low ink messages. Check your manual for details as instructions vary widely.
-Reinstall the cartridge or reset the cartridge counter
*Side Tip: Lost your printer manual? Look it up online with just the make and model of the printer. Almost all are available online.
